Interferences

02.11.2023 - 23.03.2025

The Interferences programme brings to the Cerruti Collection works by contemporary artists that discreetly fit into the rooms of the house-museum. On the occasion of the exhibition Mutual Aid – Art in Collaboration with Nature, curated by Francesco Manacorda and Marianna Vecellio at the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, works by Henrik Håkansson, Renato Leotta and Natsuko Uchino are presented. A video by Mark Leckey celebrates the publication of the first issue of the Cerruti Collection’s “Journals of Physics and Metaphysics”, which includes a new contribution by the artist.

Mark Leckey’s practice intertwines film, sound, sculpture and performance, exploring the relationships between art history, popular culture and new technologies. In Carry Me into The Wilderness, 2022, Leckey reworks with 3D programming software the compartment of a predella with a penitent Saint Jerome painted by Lorenzo Monacoat the end of the 14th century, intermingling video shooting, dialogue and music.Of the original scene, the iconic image of the uninhabited cave remains, while the saint, absent, seems to invite us to join him in the desert.

Natsuko Uchino’s practice reflects on issues of participation and sustainability, adopting a multidisciplinary approach at the intersection of art, ecology, and agricultural practices. Produced in collaboration with glassblowers Jean-Charles Miot and Laeticia Andrighetto, the glass sculptures on display initiate a reflection on the transformation of matter, questioning the forces, constraints, and intentions that contribute to giving form to the formless. In an allusion to the precious interiors ofthe Villa that houses them, Uchino’s works are architectural models developedin reverse, from the inside out.

Through a close observation of the natural environment and its processes Henrik Håkansson aims to overcome the dichotomy between humans and nature. The artist records the sounds of plants, birds, insects, and other creatures in their habitats, treating them like world-famous rock stars. These, alternating themselves on the turntable of Villa Cerruti, convey the essence of environmental experiences in an exhibition context, transporting them into new spaces.

Renato Leotta observes, records and archives phenomena related to temporality, focusing his research on the relationship between nature and culture. Central to his works is his collaboration with lunar gravity, tides and light. In Cielo di ottobre (October sky), 2024, the artist registers the shadow created by the movement of sea urchins on photographic paper kept underwater, tracing a constellation of stars on the Mediterranean seabed.
