Description
Bound in brown goatskin over double boards; the cover of the lower board is decorated with red, gold and black paint; gold-painted mostly floral decoration. The upper board is cut out to form a frame, painted red with gold-painted floral branches, and two interlacing ribbons, one painted red, the other black, with gold-painted floral decoration. On the upper cover in the centre: the lion of St Mark (painted); on the lower cover the painted arms of Hieronimo Bernardo (rather damaged). Traces of four pairs of ties. Edges of boards and turn-ins: gold painted line. Sewn on five supports, laced in, showing as raised bands on the spine, painted gold; six compartments, painted in gold, red and black. Yellow silk endbands, single with a bead, cores broken off. Gilt edges. White paper paste-downs and two free paper endleaves.
