La Collezione Cerruti. Catalogo Generale

The Cerruti Collection Catalogue Italian edition, edited by Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev and published by Umberto Allemandi Editore, consists of over 1,200 pages divided into two volumes, the result of a research project that involved 89 Italian and international scholars.

The catalogue consists of two volumes. The first volume opens with a visual essay, which allows the reader to take a journey through the rooms and the garden of Villa Cerruti. Here are some general essays, distributed according to the themes: The Art Collection; Manuscripts, Books and Bindings; Furniture, Carpets and Decorative arts; The House Museum. These subdivisions are an expression of the desire to look beyond the extraordinary works that make up the collection. Therefore, the archive documents are reread, the details and techniques of the paintings are observed and the physical space, the preparations and the restorations of the Rivoli villa are investigated, trying to build a bridge between the figure of the collector and the building which he decided not to live and to transform into a casket for his works. The Essays section is followed by the actual Catalogue, which opens, in an unexpected way and in homage to Cerruti’s profession, with the Manuscripts, Books and Bindings section. The first volume closes with critical texts on Painting, sculpture and works on paper from the 14th to the 19th century. In the second volume the catalogue continues with Painting, sculpture and works on paper from the 20th century, Furniture and Furnishing, Carpets and Other Textiles and Decorative Arts. Finally, the End Matter include a biography of Cerruti that traces his history as an entrepreneur and outlines his profile as an industry captain.
