Bound in brown calf, tooled in gold to a panel design with two wide borders with a floral and a scallop roll; the panel is filled with floral curls and a large flower vase from which emerge two large leafy sprays with large flowers. In the centre of the upper cover: the arms of the Benedictine monastery of Ettal; in the centre of the lower cover: the arms of Abbot Bernardus I Oberhauser with the date 1736. Edges of boards: blind tooled. Traces of two pairs of blue silk ties. Sewn on seven cords, laced in, showing as raised bands on the spine, gold tooled; eight compartments, tooled in gold with corner curls and a central floral ornament. Grey-green and white endbands, single with a bead; cores cut off. Gilt edges. Comb-marbled paste-downs and one free white paper endleaf.
