The small village rug, the only one of its kind in the Cerruti Collection, presents light-coloured motifs of tribal derivation. Somewhat coarsely woven and characterised by use of the particularly soft wool of Central Anatolia, it is certainly too small to be a prayer rug and may have been a covering for a chair or a cushion (yastik). In the centre of the large octagonal medallion is a square divided into smaller squares like a chessboard, which could also have been its original function. The two ends present external borders with a pattern of small polychromatic shields or lappets, a typical feature of Central Anatolia and the Konya region in particular.
