Bound in red goatskin with raised onlays of pale and dark blue, beige, citron, pale brown, pale and dark green, tan, and dark brown goatskin, some raised onlays are layered. The raised onlays continue over the edges of the boards and on to the turn-ins. Sewn on seven recessed cords, probably laced in (very difficult to see). Smooth spine; the raised onlays continue over the spine; title lettered in black, the letters are of inlaid black calf. Yellow silk endbands, single; cores cut off. Tan, green, pale brown, beige and blue goatskin joints; canvas doublures and one free canvas endleaf (backed with Japon nacré), followed by three free Japon nacré endleaves.
On an endleaf at the back is pasted a manuscript letter from Henri Mercher on paper, headed: “Mercher- Brousse - 18, rue Visconti, Paris, 6e - tél. 326-40-41”, in which he writes that he bound Haute Folie for Monsieur Aché, explaining that the colours of the leathers were inspired by the bleak landscape Vlaminck is interested in; stating that the binding was made in his atelier in Rue Visconti in Paris in November 1967. In a veneer and yellow goatskin wrapper and a veneer slipcase with yellow goatskin edges. 154-(8) numbered pages, with 48 colour lithographs, 2 original watercolours; followed by a three suites of the 48 lithographs.
