This mosaic binding was made in Paris in the 18th century. Mosaic bindings with large floral designs have been attributed to J.-A. and N.-D. Derome. As there are no identifiable tools, any attribution remains uncertain. J.-A. Derome died in 1760; Nicolas-Denis, his son, took over from his father. For the Derome family, see cat. p. 292.
